Safeena Husain,
Founder and Program Advisor

An alumnus of the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, Safeena founded BEYOND BORDERS in 2006. She has worked extensively with rural and urban underserved communities in South America, Africa and Asia. From 1997 to 2004, she was the Chief Executive Director for Child Family Health International in San Francisco, managing and supporting a range of volunteer programs in the area of health in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Safeena is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Educate Girls, an India based non-profit that works towards reforming girls’ education in some of the most challenging areas of the country. She continues to advise BEYOND BORDERS on program development and takes an active interest in some of BEYOND BORDERS’s initiatives in education and social work.


Hansal Mehta,
Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer

A software engineer in his previous life and a maverick film-maker with over 8 feature films to his credit, Hansal has donned many caps. From a software start up to making independent films in ‘Bollywood’ to India’s most popular food show and then heading one of India’s premier production houses, Hansal terms his wide professional experience a never-ending adventure. His ‘politically incorrect’ blogs on cinema and sometimes subversive poetry can be found on  As a product of experiential learning he believes that experiences and travel shape some of the world’s finest talents. He also believes that global citizenry and engagement with diverse communities are indeed solutions to many of the world’s pressing issues. Hansal leads BEYOND BORDERS with his passion for change and vision for a better tomorrow.


Arunabha Pal (Aaron),
Chief Operating Officer

A stickler for meticulous detail, Aaron is BEYOND BORDERS’s management guru. Armed with a science degree from Kolkata and a management degree from the same city, he was associated with the business process outsourcing industry in India for over a decade. During this time he managed large scale, multi-location operations in senior leadership roles, both in India and abroad. Aaron found his calling in the social sector and for over 3 years remained the Centre Head for Magic Bus India, an NGO that runs experiential programs designed for slum kids at their sprawling center in Maharashtra, India. Aaron now leads BEYOND BORDERS’s ambitious vision for the future with a focus on facilities, logistics, processes, systems and organizational development. Aaron also focuses on ensuring that overall program quality, safety and emergency standards of the organization adhere to the best practices followed around the globe.


Raksha Kini,
Program Manager

Raksha has a degree in Bachelor of Science with Plant Biology majors from the University of New Hampshire, USA. Being a happy people person, she feels that probing for a new discovery under a microscope in a research lab isn’t her cup of tea. Ever since her graduation, she has been working with students; previously as an Education Counselor sending Indian students for studies abroad and now the other way around at BEYOND BORDERS. Having been on a study abroad program herself, Raksha is able to relate to the needs, requirements and expectations of foreign students who come for BEYOND BORDERS’s experiential learning programs. She works with BEYOND BORDERS students in organizing placements, co-ordinating their day-to-day activities in the field and guiding or arranging cultural exposures over the weekends. She has travelled to Nepal, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Canada, Vietnam and Thailand for pleasure trips. She loves traveling to such an extent that she visited over 20 states in USA in a span of 2 years covering all the popular cities across the country.


Aftab Alam,
Finance and Administration Manager
Aftab Alam has a Master’s degree in Finance from the Aligarh Muslim University, one of India’s most prestigious central universities. Although he only has 2 years of experience in the field of finance, he has already taken on the responsibilities of looking after the Finance and Administration function at BEYOND BORDERS with his demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply his learning to the job. He now manages the preparation and maintenance of a variety of financial records and reports, develops goals and objectives for the finance and administration department, prepares and administers internal policies and procedures relevant to departmental program activities and interprets and explains applicable rules, laws and regulations to all members of the BEYOND BORDERS Team.
